The Assistant Director of Public Affairs, Ms. Dorothy Bassey has assured the media of an improved level of communication and strategic engagement in DPR’s quest for positive publicity and reporting of its activities to stakeholders and the general public henceforth.
This pledge came during a mini summit held on Thursday November 6, 2014 between the Public Affairs team and Executives of the Nigerian Association of Energy Correspondents (NAEC) at DPR Headquarters in Lagos.
The meeting was deemed necessary by both parties following what Ms. Bassey observed as a “decline in understanding” between the organizations. She wondered why this situation had arisen stressing that both DPR and NAEC were partners in the desired progress of the oil and gas sector.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Chairman of NAEC, Mr. Yunus Yusuf noted that they have observed a hiatus in the level of contact and communication from DPR that caused a bit of concern among his colleagues in the media. He said however that following this dialogue, that they were now reassured of DPR’s willingness to assist the journalists to make their task of positive reportage easier by providing relevant information as at when due through the vibrant Public Affairs Department.
Mr. Sunday Babalola, Head, Basinal & Lease Administration who represented the Director of Petroleum Resources echoed Ms. Bassey in reiterating DPR’s willingness to partner with the press to ensure that DPR’s efforts in providing a strong and dynamic regulatory framework for the industry had the much needed communication platform that only the energy correspondents can provide to reach all stakeholders.
