BILATERAL MEETING BETWEEN THE NIGERIAN UPSTREAM PETROLEUM REGULATORY COMMISSION AND THE UNITED STATES BUREAU OF ENERGY RESOURCES AT THE ONGOING AFRICA OIL WEEK CONFERENCE 2024 AT CAPETOWN, SOUTH AFRICA

A bilateral meeting between the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and the United States Bureau of Energy Resources focused on strategies for methane abatement and emissions reduction, aiming to create a mutually beneficial balance between industrial progress and environmental sustainability.

The NUPRC delegation, headed by Commission Chief Executive Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, stressed the importance of fostering collaboration and mutual interests that would advance energy resource management and environmental protection efforts in both Nigeria and the United States.

Kimberly D. Harrington, who led the U.S. delegation, praised NUPRC’s proactive initiatives to reduce methane emissions, underscoring the global significance of cutting greenhouse gas emissions. The discussions revolved around both countries working together to meet shared objectives in energy security, climate change mitigation, and environmental conservation, while also supporting economic growth within the energy sector.

Key areas of potential collaboration included the adoption of advanced technologies for emissions monitoring and reduction, exchanging best practices for methane management, and exploring investment opportunities to stimulate innovation in the upstream petroleum sectors of both nations.
