The Director of Petroleum Resources, Mr. Mordecai Danteni Baba Ladan along with some of his top management committee members and other senior staff of the Department, officially received the Executives of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Nigeria Council, led by Dr. Kofi Sagoe of Shell Nigeria and an SPE Council Board of Trustee Member, Dr. Saka Matemilola who is the SPE Nigeria Council Chairman. They were accompanied by other executive members of the association as they paid a courtesy visit to the Director recently in Lagos.
After a brief introduction, Mr. Ladan welcomed the SPE delegation to the DPR. He reassured them of the Department’s support for the association and the DPR’s collaboration with the SPE over the years. In his words, “I am very proud of the contributions and activities of the SPE Nigeria Council to the Oil and Gas industry locally and internationally”.
In their presentation by Dr. Kofi Sagoe, appealed for DPR management to encourage an increased staff membership of the SPE to help broaden its intellectual scope, they also appealed to the Director for improvement in the participation of the DPR at SPE Nigeria Council functions and events, specifically in the area of submission of technical papers.
In his response, the Director acknowledged the growth experienced by the association in the last ten years, remarking the increase in its student/professional membership. The Director promised the delegation that he will do everything possible to encourage an increase in the number of registered DPR staff members and even explore the possibility of corporate membership for the Department tor SPE. He also agreed to facilitate increased participation of DPR in the activities of the SPE.
Mr. Ladan, reassured the delegation of the DPR’s support for the association. He also used the opportunity to inform the delegation of ongoing reforms by the Government to encourage investments in the “Gas to power initiatives” of the Federal Government. He emphasized that this initiative will help government to achieve a zero flare out policy, increase power generation and revenue for government through investment in modular solutions and creation of job opportunities for Nigerians.
The SPE delegation used the occasion to invite the Director to the opening ceremony of its 41st Annual International conference and Exhibition (NAICE) scheduled to hold from the 31st July – 2nd August, 2017 at the Expo Center, Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The theme of the conference is, “Riding the Waves of Boom and Bust: Common Objectives, Diverse Perspectives”.
The Director was also invited as a speaker, to a special workshop on “COMMINGLING” under the sub-theme: “Attaining Optimal Production and Profitability in the Development of Marginal Fields: Spotlight on Commingling, Challenges and Best Practices for Hydrocarbon Management”.
