DEPARTMENT OF PETROLEUM RESOURCES AND LAKESHORE CANCER CENTER LAGOS ORGANISE FREE BREAST CANCER SCREENING FOR 100 WOMEN OF ETI-OSA COMMUNITY.

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) in collaboration with Lakeshore Cancer Centre, Lagos (LCC) on Tuesday the 23rd February, 2016 the DPR/LCC organised a “Free Breast Cancer Screening Exercise” for 100 female beneficiaries from the Eti-Osa Local Government Area in Lagos State.

The event which was a continuation of the CSR initiative of the DPR in commemoration of “world Cancer Day”, took place at the Eti-Osa Health Centre, Muri Okunola Street, Iru Victoria Island, Lagos.
DPR’s Head of Public Affairs, Ms. Dorothy Bassey, accompanied by some top management officers and the CSR team, welcomed the beneficiaries of the free screening exercise to the program and reassured all present of the Department’s commitment to adding value to the lives of the people of Eti-Osa Community in line with DPR’s corporate social responsibility initiative.

Responding on behalf of Lakeshore Cancer Centre, Ms. Bindiya Chugani, Centre Director/Clinical Research Coordinator, thanked DPR for the continued partnership with the LCC and also for the sponsorship of the screening exercise for the more than 100 Eti-Osa community women. The high point of the event, was the lecture presentation / Question & Answer Session on Breast Cancer & Cervical Cancer Awareness by Dr. Yinka Akinyemiju, palliative care specialist with translation into the local Yoruba language, by Pastor Adunola Akinyade Kasali, Deputy Manager in the Downstream Division and part of the CSR team.

 

Hon. (Mrs.) Adu Rashidat Abiodun, Deputy Executive Secretary/Supervisor for Health and Environment, Iru Victoria Island Local Council Development Area, on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to the DPR for their magnanimity and commitment to expanded healthcare delivery as exemplified in the sponsorship of the screening program for the women of Eti-Osa community. She further encouraged the DPR to organise more of these programs in the future in order to widen the circle of beneficiaries.

 

About a week earlier, a breast cancer screening exercise had been organised within DPR headquarters in Lagos for 25 female staff members also as part of the World Cancer Day program.
